Malawi

€63,500 of Help for Self-Help for 4,500 People in Malawi

East Africa is repeatedly struck by severe droughts. Threatened by famine, millions of people are struggling to survive. Malawi, too, is plagued by poverty and hunger. Eighty percent of the population depends on agriculture for their livelihood, but the long dry spells in large parts of the country lead to major crop failures. As a result, approximately 8.5 million people are dependent on aid.

Together with Deutsche Welthungerhilfe e.V., we have supported young parents in 25 villages in the Mangochi and Dezda districts. In doing so, we have focused on “helping people help themselves” for the 4,500 people living there, specifically through:

•Learning farming methods

•Building irrigation systems

•Cultivating crops

•Processing and marketing food

•Small-scale animal husbandry

•Training on health and hygiene

Through 2019, “Mubea hilft” funded the implementation of these measures with donations totaling 63,500 euros.

Mubea Aid Projects in Haiti : Our Support Makes a Difference

In collaboration with Welthungerhilfe e.V., we were able to successfully complete four projects over the course of six years, all of which were finalized in 2016. As a result, 1,500 families in the rural region of Marigot received the critical assistance they needed to build a better and more self-reliant future.

Mango Trees for the Future

Improved living conditions and income for approximately 1,000 families

Thanks to training programs, the residents are now able to market, process, and properly store local fruit and other agricultural products. The new trees provide protection against erosion and cyclones. They also provide fruit for sale, as well as timber and firewood.

Here's what we've achieved together:

Processing of 7,812 kg of fruit over 241 production days
Construction and commissioning of a workshop with three mills
Training 1,000 women in traditional fruit processing and preservation techniques
Establishment of four fruit tree nurseries, yielding 57,951 seedlings

Cistern Construction

Water supply for 50 families

Mubea is contributing 39,000 euros

The construction of cisterns has provided remote villages in the Ka Batis region with access to drinking water and the ability to treat collected rainwater.

Here's what we've achieved together:

Installation of rainwater collection tanks in eight towns
Storage capacity of 113,562 liters of water during the dry season
Improving the living conditions of approximately 200 families

Women's Groups

A Better Future in Grand Goâve, Haiti

Income for Women and the Reconstruction of a School

With a donation of 167,140 euros, we have laid the foundation for a better future in Grand Goâve.

In addition to building and operating a training center and creating a vegetable garden for the women’s groups, we helped fund the construction and equipping of a school, including a school garden. Seven classrooms and a restroom building were completed.

The success speaks for itself: We enable more than 120 children to attend school and learn in a suitable environment!
