Disc Springs- General
Disc springs are shallow conical rings that can be
subjected to axial loads (s. Fig.). Normally the ring
thickness is constant. The load is evenly distributed
over the upper inside and lower outside edge.
Disc springs are generally manufactured from spring
steel and can be subjected to static loads, rarely alternating,
and to dynamic loads. Disc springs satisfy the most
stringent requirements against setting loss and for
fatigue strength.

Disc springs are distinguished from other spring
types by the following characteristics:
- high load capacity with a small spring deflection
- considerably better space utilisation when compared
with other types of springs
- high fatigue life and low creep tendency with the
correct dimensioning
- different assemblies can be designed to achieve
the desired load characteristics
- special materials and various surface coatings
can be used
- cost-effectiveas a result of standardised sizes.
